PoweRun©

The PoweRun competition, a separate event run by the Kennett Area YMCA, is held in conjunction with the 10K and 5K Runs. The PoweRun biathlon involves skills of strength and endurance, measured by a combination of weight-lifting and distance running. Men and women 14 and over are eligible to compete. Not all runners in the races are PoweRun competitors, but all PoweRun competitors must run in either the 10K or 5K race. (See Rules and Regulations)

In the men's PoweRun biathlon, for each bench press repetition of body weight (no deduction for clothing), 60 seconds are subtracted from their finish time in the 10K Run, or 30 seconds subtracted from their finish time in the 5K Run. (See chart below).

In the women's competition, the same time deductions are taken for bench press reps of 60% body weight (no deduction for clothing). (See chart below).

The lower the score the better. Some winners may even score into the negative numbers! Cash prizes to top three overall males and females in both 10K and 5K runs. Awards to the top three men and women in each race for the following age categories:  14-19, 20-29, 30-39, Master 40-54, and Seniors 55 and over.

Rules and Regulations

Weighing In:

All participants must weigh in at the scales provided.

Participants will leave their shoes and shirts on.

No deduction will be taken for clothing.

♦ Participant's lifting weight will correlate to bodyweight as illustrated on conversion charts.

Bench Press:

No warm-ups on weight bench.  (other benches provided for warm-up.)

Collars must be used.

Bar must touch chest on every repetition.

Arms must be FULLY extended at the end of each repetition (If you have a physical limitation that prevents you from straightening your arms, you must inform the official before you start lifting.).

Once the bar ceases to rise or begins negative movements, the spotter and/or judge will end the session.

Back and hips must remain flat on the bench at all times. Any arching or moving which causes the hips to come off the bench will result in the termination of the attempts. The number of repetition prior to the hips coming off the bench will be used for the PoweRun© calculations.

Feet are to remain in the same position throughout the bench press, either firmly on the floor or planted on the bench.

A pause of more than 3 seconds either at the top of the lift or the bottom of the lift will trigger a warning from the official. It movement doesn’t occur immediately thereafter, the number of repetitions done to that point will be used for the PoweRun© calculations.

Grip placement left to the discretion of the competitor. Once the repetitions have been initiated, the grip cannot be changed.

The judge’s ruling is FINAL. No appeals will be allowed!

PoweRun Sponsorship

This year will be our 21st event. The race draws people and publicity from all over Chester County, as well as surrounding counties, states and foreign countries. This event has continued to be a huge success because of the quality of competition, the dedication and effectiveness of the race organizers (which include our service clubs, organizations and individuals) and most importantly, because of the generosity and support of local businesses.

Contributors of $500.00 or more are eligible for PoweRun Sponsorships. This entitles your company’s name and logo to appear on the PoweRun Shirts, on other promotional materials and on the Kennett Run’s website.  Please call me at your earliest convenience if your company would like to appear on the PoweRun shirts. The final date for artwork or logos for the PoweRun Shirts is April 1, 2010.

Even if you cannot commit to be a PoweRun Sponsor, any donation will gladly be accepted and appreciated. Please make your check payable to The Kennett Run 2010 and mail it to:
