Race Day Information

More than 3,000 participants, volunteers, and spectators enable Kennett Run Charities, Inc. to continue its substantial support of worthy causes, organizations, and individuals.

We invite you to join us for a day of competition and enjoyment in this worthy event. The post-race party at Anson B. Nixon Park for friends, families, and spectators offers another highlight for the day’s festivities. Free refreshments await all participants at the finish line in the park.

Driving Directions

From PHILADELPHIA:
Take I-95 South to Route 322 West (Exit 3A) to Route 1 South. Pass Longwood Gardens and then take the first Kennett Square exit (State Street). The first traffic light will be at State and Broad Streets.

From BALTIMORE, MD, & WASHINGTON, DC
Take I-95 North, cross the Susquehanna River, go through one toll, and immediately take the exit for Route 222 (in Maryland). After exiting, turn right onto Route 222 (Jacob Tome Rd.). Almost immediately the road become Route 275 (Don't continue on Route 222, which turns to the left).  A few miles later when Route 275 ends at a "T" intersection, make a right turn onto Route 276. Take Route 276 to Route 1 North into Pennsylvania. Exit at Route 82 - Kennett Square, make a right onto North Union Street.  The first traffic light will be at N. Union and State Streets. 

From LOWER DELAWARE, DOVER, ETC.
Take DE Route 1 North to I-95 North to Route 141 North towards Newport, DE.  From Route 141, take Route 52 North to Route 1 South. Pass Longwood Gardens and then take the first Kennett Square exit (State Street). The first traffic light will be at State and Broad Streets.

From NEW JERSEY
Take Route I-295 South to Route 322 West across the Commodore Barry Bridge into Pennsylvania, then stay on Route 322 West (which becomes I-95 South for a short distance but then branches off to the right as 322 West) to Route 1 South. Pass Longwood Gardens and then take the first Kennett Square exit (State Street).  The first traffic light will be at State and Broad Streets.

From NEW YORK CITY
Take the NJ Turnpike to Exit 6, then take the PA Turnpike West to Exit 25A (Mid-County Exit), then take I-476 South to Route 1 South. Pass Longwood Gardens and then take the first Kennett Square exit (State Street).  The first traffic light will be at State and Broad Streets.

From PITTSBURGH
Take I-76 E (Portions toll) to the I-283/PA-283 exit toward Hershey. Take PA-283 E toward Lancaster (which becomes US-30 E). Take PA-41 S to Route 1. After that, take the PA-82 ramp toward Kennett Square.

Parking

A 300-space parking garage is located just one block from the starting line and 4 blocks from the Kennett Area YMCA (registration). Runners may park in the parking garage on a first-come, first-serve basis and free-of-charge on the day of the race. PLEASE, in consideration of non-participants no parking is made available at the YMCA. Other parking options include parking near the finish line at Anson B. Nixon Park and also the first parking area next to the Kennett Fire Company on Dalmation Lane. The fire company is located off Cypress Street adjacent to the Kennett Area YMCA.

For your convenience, bus transportation will be provided after the race. The bus will travel from Anson B. Nixon Park for drop-off back at the starting line and the parking lot at the fire company.

Road Closings

Some of the following roads will be closed to traffic while the race participants pass by. They will be reopened as soon as safety allows. We sincerely hope that you can plan your schedule so that you will not be seriously inconvenienced.

State Street: Both lanes between Broad and Union from 7 to 9:20 a.m.

Union Street (Route 82):

Both lanes between State and Linden from 8:45 to 9:30 a.m.

Both lanes between Linden and West Locust from 8:45 to 10:45 a.m.

Northbound lane between West Locust and Country Club from 8:45 to 10:45 a.m.

Linden Street: Both lanes between Union and North Willow from 8:50 to 9:30 a.m.

Elm Street: Both lanes between Linden and Walls from 8:50 to 9:40 a.m.

In Cedarcroft: Taylor, Potter, and Bayard Drives will be closed from 8:45 to 10:30 a.m. and adjacent roads will also be affected.

Country Club/East Locust: Both lanes between Route 82 and Walnut Road from 8:55 to 10:00 a.m.

Longwood Road: Both lanes between Walnut and Conservatory from 8:55 to 10:30 a.m.

Walnut Road: Both lanes between Nixon Park and Country Club/Longwood Roads from 9:10 to 10:45 a.m.

Safety

No bicycles, skates, dogs, or unregistered persons will be allowed on the course. Headsets and strollers are allowed only in walks. Water stops: three for the 10K Run and one for the 5K Run. Emergency services and helicopter medic evacuation for the Kennett Run are provided by the Kennett Fire Company No. 1, Longwood Fire Company and Sky Flight Care.

Registration

Race day registration opens at 7 a.m. and closes at 8:45 a.m. at the Kennett Area YMCA. Race packets are available then. Entry fees are non-refundable.

Fees

1-Mile Fun Walk: $5

1-Mile Kids Run (13 and under) : $5

Runs and 5K Race Walk: $20 pre-race fee, $25 race day fee. There is a cut-off date for pre-race registration.

First 900 registrants are guaranteed a T-shirt or singlet (except for Fun Walk participants); also on sale day of race.

Age Groups

9 and under (5K), 10-13 (5K), 13 and under (10K), 14-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70 and over; Masters 40 and over.

Wheelchairs are invited to participate in all events, except the 1-mile Fun Walk.

Team Competition for 10K Run

Team Categories:

  • Corporate Team
  • Club/Open Team
  • Kennett Area Service Club/Public Agency 

Team membership must consist of a minimum of four, and a maximum of eight runners. Must include both genders. Scored by adding four best team members’ places (both genders must be represented). No additional registration fee beyond individual entry fees. To be registered, all team entries must be sent in one envelope and received by the pre-race registration deadline. The winning team in each team category will receive a team award. Team members are eligible for individual awards.

Timing

The event will be scored using the ChampionChip Timing System. On race day, runners will be issued a rental computer chip that is attached to the shoe lace and worn throughout the race. Special mats at the finish will record a finishing time for each chip. All rental chips must be returned at the finish line. Splits will be called at each mile marker Digital clocks are used at the finish line. The finish will be video taped.

Post-Race Party

There will be ample refreshments, food, draft beer, music, raffle and awards ceremony promptly after the events. The party is complimentary for walkers and runners.
